Built in 1930 by the Dawn Boat Company in Clason Point, New York. It is believed this yacht was purchased off the floor at the 1930 New York Boat Show. She made her way to Portland in 1936.
This yacht is one of a limited number of yachts of her size that were available in 1930 with both an enclosed pilothouse and a hard flat top cover for her cockpit. The Dawn Boat Company offered their standardized cruisers with custom appointments. On board, she has her original eighty day clock, custom built into the console. She also is equipped with a unique hot water heating system, unknown in most boats of her time.
This yacht was built using conventional carvel planking on bent oak frames. Her cabin is of solid Honduran mahogany. Petrel is powered by twin Chrysler gas engines. She is most likely one of the most original Dawns still afloat today. She still has the glass windshield forward of her hard top cockpit cover.
Engines: Twin Chrysler Straight 8 Royals(original) - In good working order.
Transmission/Reduction Gears: 2.03.01 - In good working order.
Complete instruments at console.
Estimated cruise speed: 9 knots Max: 12 knots
Equipped w/Onan 2.5 KW genset and 32v 1500w Onan belt drive generator powered off the port engine.
