Description
Mahone Bay "Mist Of Avalon" was built as a swordfishing schooner to meet the rugged, demanding seas of the North Atlantic and bring her crew and their catch home safely. Her massive oak structure reassures all who sail her that they are safe. "Mist Of Avalon" gives a sense of being contained on deck inside her bulwark and below deck in her mahogany and oak accommodations, while at the same time giving a feeling of space. This is the boat for someone who wants to entertain large groups dockside and daysailing, or cruise with a small group. Her current owner has cruised extensively with as few as six people aboard. She has participated as a Class B Tallship in many Tallship gatherings and has the ability to make a significant income as a tallship. Her central heating system and Vermont castings woodstove make her a comfortable and magical place to be on a cool night on the water. "Mist Of Avalon" has all the systems nessessary to make you feel at home and bring you back safely. Gaff-rigged. Viewings by appointment only. Bring your camera!

Deck
"Mist of Avalon" has an oiled White Pine deck with Mahogany deck structures and rail cap. The deck itself is built of 2 3/4" white pine on White Oak deck beams with a layer of tar and a layer of plywood more tar, and the finished deck surface of White Pine. The deck gear is substantial and suited to rugged use on a heavy ship. Starting aft, is the helm with a 52" bronze wheel mounted on a hydraulic pump in a traditional housing. Ahead is a brass binnacle. Leading from the after deck are two companionways. The port side enters the engine room and the work shop. The Starboard companionway enters the deck house. The deck house is of substantial construction and built of Mahogany. Foreward of the deck house is the main mast surounded by a Mahogany pinrail. A bridge deck passes between the deck house and the cabin trunk which is next foreward. The roof of the cabin has two butterfly style hatches and houses the authentic fishing Dory. The cabin trunk itself is built of solid Mahogany with a pine tung and grove roof, covered with marine plywood and highlighted with black deck seam lines and then varnished. Next foreward is the foremast with pinrail. To the port side is a companion way to the galley. Farthest foreward is the large manual windlass and the bowsprit. On hot summer days the deck can be covered by the ships awning.
